Susan Gerulskis-Estes, a writer and an artist living in Massachusetts, has always been intrigued by symbolism. Such an interest led her to study the history and meaning of the Tarot, to discussion groups on the Tarot and Kabalah, and finally to writing The Book of Tarot, her first book. 

“My greatest hope for The Book of Tarot is that people will understand the Tarot cards as a serious and informative entity which [can] explain allegorically the subtle forces in operation in the universe. As one becomes aware of these forces, one’s consciousness is elevated and therefore can deal more effectively with the ways (or laws) of the universe." 

Bill Greer, born and raised in Missouri, studied at the Kansas City Art Institute and the University of Colorado. He has lived and worked mostly in the east with periodic forays into Texas and Missouri where he has a house. 

“For as long as I can remember I've been interested in the Tarot, first responding to the visual richness as many artists have. I’ve also been interested in metaphysics—the occult, magic, and psychic phenomena as well as in the writing of Jung, Frazer, Frye, and Campbell, who were of considerable influence as I began to identify archetypes and how they are part of our everyday life. 

In this deck, the Case book was used as a primer. There are certain colors used as dictated by Case for symbolic reasons. I sought to incorporate these colors and elaborate, so as to create an immediate emotional reaction to each card even before an image could be looked at in depth. The work was done in the country away from distractions. In a practical way, all the years of research and study were allowed to flow into form.”
